A special medal presentation took place at the Royal British Legion Scotland Dalbeattie branch’s recent social evening.
The Lord Lieutenant for the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, The Lord Sinclair, presented the Nuclear Test Medal to William Watson.
He served in the RAF in Maralinga, south Australia, during nuclear testing in 1962, when he was just 19 and remembers unloading a special box containing the last three firing pins for testing from a Britannia aircraft.
The Nuclear Test Medal was unveiled earlier this year and, like other veterans from that era, William had waited for a long time medal.
