Scotland Set for Final Blast of Sunshine as Temperatures to Soar After Washout

SCOTS could finally be set for an Indian Summer with hopes of a much-needed fortnight of sun, according to forecasters. Experts say we could see temperatures of up to 20C following the washout school holidays. After a wet and mild summer forecasters claim brighter days are coming. And the balmy weather is expected to last until the middle of September. On Sunday Old Firm fans are in for a treat as the mercury is expected to reach 21C. Brian Gaze of The Weather Outlook said: “Forecast models show a possibly lengthy period of warm and mostly dry weather developing in early September.”

Blue skies and sunshine are likely across all parts of the country , while northern areas could be a little bit cooler. Rachel Ayers from the Met Office said: “High pressure is expected to build across Scotland this weekend, and in part this is due to ex-Hurricane Franklin as it will help to amplify the jet stream. “As the jet stream moves north, a ridge will develop and this is expected to help an area of high pressure to build just to the south of the jet stream – bringing more settled weather to the UK.

“Looking at temperatures across Scotland we can expect widespread highs of 17-20 Celsius this weekend with a few spots perhaps seeing highs of 22 or 23 Celsius (a little above the early September average). “But nights will remain quite cool and chilly in places – and a few isolated spots in glens may even see temperatures fall low enough to give a touch of grass frost, with air temp minimums of 3 Celsius.” Bookie Ladbrokes is offering 2-1 odds on next month being the hottest on record in the UK.
