Extra Police at Scotland Co. School Due to Online Threat

Scotland County Schools announced there will be additional police Wednesday at Scotland High School following an online threat.

A news release said the threat is under investigation and the school district is working with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students and staff at the school.

The release said, “Because we take all threats against our students and staff members seriously, we have added extra security on our campus and there will be an elevated Police presence to ensure the safety of each student, staff member, visitor, and volunteer on our campus.”

The crime of making a threat against a school is a Class H felony.

North Carolina Code of Law for communicating a threat of mass violence on educational property reads:

“A person who, by any means of communication to any person or groups of persons, threatens to commit an act of mass violence on educational property or at a curricular or extracurricular activity sponsored by a school is guilty of a Class H felony.”
